Districts Junior Netball

Hi all,

I have just received the new 2011 calendar for this season and the starting date for juniors has been rescheduled for April 13th. This gives us a bit more time to plan as I would like to order new uniforms this year and am trying to secure a sponsor. If any one can help with this, at any level, let us know.

I am happy to say that Jodie Shaw has returned to the coaching panel, and is very keen to work with our juniors again this year. This is great news for the club – maybe Darcy can finally be rid of me!

Thanks to all the girls and families that have replied to my earlier email, I appreciate the positive response. The DNA will be setting a date for junior sign on soon, and then training dates will be organized – I am hoping to start training at least 4 weeks before the season starts.

If people are interested in helping out at all this year – umpiring, coaching etc then be aware that all volunteers over 15 have to have an ‘ochre card’. It is pretty easy to get, and needs to be done before the season starts. The forms can be found on the government website, or just Google it. I will need to sign these forms, so the sooner the better.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Training

Hi all,

The season is fast approaching and training is now ON!! Only eight at Palmerston on Monday, but did we work hard! It costs $75 per hour to hire these courts, so we need at least 15 players to cover costs. Remember we need to have all players, past and future, register their interest, and if you are new to attend a few trainings so we can finalise teams. Please, if your receiving these emails and are not going to play, please let me know.

Next training is on Thursday at Marrara 6.30 to 7.30, hope to see you all there.

Regards

Claire

Thursday’s Training Review

It has been great to see and hear the enthusiasm at our training sessions. Thursday caused a slow day on Friday, my legs were staging a little protest after all that running, I shall have a word with the coach…might reward the workers with some court play on Monday.

For those of you who are interested I’ve provided two of the drills that we ran through.

Combination Drill

(7 passes and change position)
Netball Drill 1
* Player A starts with the ball
* Player A makes a shoulder pass (1); to player B
* Player B makes a shoulder pass (2) to the moving player A
* Player A makes a chest pass (3) to player C driving to the left
* Player A cuts behind player C, who makes a shoulder pass (4) back to player B
* Player C drives back to the original position to take a chest pass (5) from player B
* Player C makes a lob pass (6) to A who then makes a shoulder pass (7) to D (next in line)
* Without stopping the drill player A takes up position at B player B takes up position C and player C returns to the end of the line at E.

Coaching Points
* Pass to space ahead of a player on the move
* Drive to a vacant space to receive a pass
* Variety of passes, timing, footwork, agility skills
* Speed and accuracy

To increase the difficulty:
* Allow player A to move either left or right after the first pass

Cut, Pass and Shoot

* Player A starts with the ballNetball Drill 3
* Player A makes a shoulder pass (1) to player B and sprints to cut around B and into the circle.
* Player C makes a chest pass (2) across the circle to player C.
* Player C makes a chest pass (3) to player A cutting into the circle close to the goal post.
* Player A catches the ball, balances and shoots (4) for goal.
* Player B comes into the circle after pass 3 and takes the rebound after the shot for goal.
* Player B makes a shoulder pass (5) back to player D, who is now forst in line, and sprints to the end of the line.
* Player A moves into position C.
* Player C moves to position B and the sequence is repeated.

Coaching Points
* Strong, accurate passing.
* Shooting.
* Rebounding.
* Quick thinking.
* Pass to space.

Progression:
* Player B defends the shot for goal by A – both try for the rebound.
* Change from right side to left.
* Use a bounce pass for pass 2.

Monday Training Time now 6pm

Good turn out on Thursday, great to see more new faces around the club. As per our discussion Monday night trainings at the YMCA Palmerston (across from the library) will now start at 6.00 (NOT 6.30) and go till 7 pm.

For all those that attended Thursdays training last week were we recorded how far we can jump, run etc. These are the results, along with the results for the NZ team to compare to!

Juniors Sign On Day

Latest news is that the new season will start on April 13th. Sign on is next Saturday at the Marrara courts from 9 – 11am. All players will need to complete new registration forms before they are able to play. I welcome all new and returning players to come down and say hi and get your name down. A starting date for training will be finalised by the end of the week, possibly March 14th.

I am keen to get new uniforms for the season and as such am looking for club sponsors. If you know any one who might be able to help us out, drop us a line so that we can send then out an official club proposal letter.

I am pleased to say that at this time we already have an excellent stable of coaches ready to get our girls onto the courts.

If any one can help out at sign on that would be great. It is usually not too busy, but an extra pair of hands is always useful.

If you are not going to play this year could you please let us know so that we can get playing lists organised and I am not chasing up players. Thanks to all those who ahve already replied to my earlier emails.

Go Northern Districts!!!

Player Nomination Forms Required

All players will be required to submit a DNA player nomination form if they intend to participate in the upcoming 2011 season. Forms should be completed and returned to Sue as soon as possible. Juniors can submit their forms at the sign on day this weekend. If you have any queries please speak to Sue or send the club an email.

Districts U13 Match Reports

Division 2 Blue

The girls played really well for their first game together and  fought out a tough draw. Not having seen the girls play before I was very pleased with their attitude and intent. Best thing was that they listened to everything I said and tried to implement it on the court. Big tick goes to Kimmie who said she did not play centre, but then played the whole game there. Thanks go to Emily James who filled in on the night. Lots to look forward to.

Claire Elliston.

Division 1

Players and coach still getting used to each other. Differences between our game and the Nettas – we are taller, the goal posts are higher and we should know better???

Positives – play improved as the game went on, all players contributed and there was intent to get it right.

Sue Kendrick.

Netta Game Report

The first ever game of netball for our girls, they tried hard, but struggled against a team that had obviously played before. They ran out of legs and got very tired at the end. Thanks to Lachlan and Lydia for filling in. Managed to score some goals and got to see how they all performed in different roles on the court. Hopefully practice will now see more relevant to all the girls.

Northern Districts senior uniforms

Northern Districts new 2011 outfits

After a long process Northern Districts are happy to a see all senior and Under 17 players attired in our new uniform.  The club decided to move into the modern times and change from body suits to the one piece A-line dresses, as worn by the Australian team and Trans-Tasman clubs. Players have also received their training tops, used on training days and match warm-ups. We have stayed with the traditional club colours of royal blue and pink, but have chosen a funky new design.

The Mitchell Centre logo is featured on the chest pocket area of uniforms. This year the Mitchell Centre shopping complex is a blue sponsor of Northern Districts and has provided generous support in assisting the club to obtain the new uniforms. I would also like to thank the following companies and people who helped us to reduce the costs associated with getting our teams on court in the new club attire;

  • City Ceramics
  • NTRS
  • Lloyd English and family
  • JS Sports
  • Raffle ticket sellers and sponsors who provided prizes

Juniors looking 'gun' in their uniforms

NETTA through to under 13’s have also received new uniforms in the same design, but we have stuck to two piece outfits for these grade. Unfortunately an ordering error has meant that adult sizes were sent instead of youth and the younger girls are still waiting, but I am hoping that this situation will be resolved by start of the second half of the season. The under 15 players were very excited about receiving the seniors body suits and don’t they look grand. The club decided that passing the body suits on to the younger girls was a sound financial decision as these uniforms were still in very good condition.

JS Sports supplied our new uniforms and I would like to thank Joe for all his help.

Northern Districts Masters (Div 1) will continue to wear their black and silver outfits for the forseeable future.

Club BBQ & 2012 Season Sign On

Hi everyone,

The new season is almost here so to celebrate Districts is holding a BBQ next Friday evening at 6 till 7.00 on the Nightcliff foreshore across from Aralia St to welcome back all our past players and supports and to welcome all our new players to the club. We will provide some snags and bread and a beverage or two.  Please come along and say hi, even if you can only stay for a little while. This is great opportunity to catch up on all the gossip and lament how unfit we all are (except for Liz!!).

Drop us a line if you are able to come, or just turn up. Feel free to bring your other half and/or friends. We will be  starting training the following week on Monday but the location is yet to be confirmed.

See you all there!

Claire
